Do and Don’t at POON HILL Trek Nepal

You probably would be searching something interesting on the net about the Poon hill trek.
You probably would be planning to hike up to 3200m height Poon hill of Nepal.
You may be searching for some itinerary for the trek. Or some helpful sites for the trek.
There are lots of sites which will show the path, where to sit, where to sleep and what you will see from there.
Anyway Poon hill is great to see the mountains. If you have time don’t hesitate to start the trek, its a wonderful place to reach.

We also went there by following looking at the different persons travel experience.

And it was okey for us. And I tell you these all are best but don’t ask me what these mean.

Now i am back from the trek and I have nothing to write but I want to write.
Everyone is writing the view is breathtaking, all the mountains are so close and so beautiful. And I don’t want to write the same thing and being lost in the crowd.

I think i should add one new dimension
By my experience here are some do and don’t that we should do while having the Poon hill trek.

do

  • try to go in the months starting from the february. All your walk will be easy as all the trails will be flavored by the beauty of rhododendron (national flower of Nepal).
  • After reaching in Pokhara or Naya pool don’t forget to ask the locals about the local weather of the poon hill. Due to local effect, there might be some change in the local weather condition.
  • if there is snow few days back don’t forget to take the crampons band or the locally made woolen shocks that is worn outside of the shoe. I personally recommend to take the crampons band but most the time shocks also does the great work.
  • if they inform that it might rain in coming days and suggest you to take plastic as raincoat buy it, it may not be useful if it don’t rain but it might be helpful sometimes.
  • (though it didn’t rain as they had said but they had said it had snowed two days back and had suggested us to take the shocks but we told we are nepali we can bear that type of snow 🙂 besides that we have good shoe but as we reached there, we felt the necessity. we just knew how does it feel to walk in the snow in the trekking shoe or some of our local shoe. Its terribly hard. In some areas, the accumulation of snow and the effect of temperature had caused the snow to form as ice and there we lost our hope. we slipped in most of the places, thanks god that we got simple slip only in our team, simple in the sense we were not seriously injured as the chinese team that we heard of.
  • it might sound awful but don’t forget to take the local raksi (locally fermented wine usually made of barley). It refreshes the whole walking trek.
  • if you are open minded don’t hesitate to flirt a bit with the locals. It is not strongly recommended but the locals are so friendly and open minded that small beautiful talk with them will make fresh mood while walking.
  • Don’t try to bargen on the cost of the food or other items, probably while walking uphill you will noticed how the daily necessities are supplied in that area and how their life is dependent upon our travel in that area.
  • Don’t try We(two of us me and N.) tried to take the shortcut way to the destination from tikhebhir and we were almost lost. We saw the road that seem to be the short way to the main way and we started it but as we went more the way becomes interesting, we thought wow the trail seems beautiful. may be they(other member of the group) missed the beautiful trek.

do you see
what
all these hours we were following the route that the wood smugglers use
what fuck

look there is no way ahead
what time it is
its 2.25 pm
we have walked almost 2 hours
and
we are in the dead end

all here is the wood cutters half worked place

and no way ahead

shit what do we do
get back
its 3 hours we climbed this fucking mountain and can you imagine how long would it take to return to the place where we took the shortcut and if we reach there as per our previous conversation in the group, it takes 4-5 hours to reach to ghorepani.
we are fucked

what is the time
its already 3pm

oh god check the network
shit it is not working
we ruined ourself and the team
they might be searching for us and this fucking network

move ahead
where to move there is not any way
you go this way i will go another way until we find some way ahead

oh it seems the broken way here, seems to be the way ahead
shit this hope of road ended in the river
all these trials are broken by the river flow
fuck us and our crazy idea of getting smart and trying to get more than the other

here seems to be the way
two ways
walk up or just straight ahead
it seems to taking  us up to the top of the hill
lets walk up
may be we could see all the area from the top

okey run on
oh my god, the mountain seems infinitive, i haven’t even breath in cool

what time it is
its 4
we are in the top of mountain
but fuck we can’t see anything, the nearby tree seems to touch the horizon
oh there is open space
just the herders left over old shed with no one and nothing to do

shout
the mountains
teases us
nobody nearby
the birds frighten us
the animals watches us
we just have to ignore them

there is not way to walk ahead
all the mountain is filled with the snow
where do we walk

lets play skating in the snow
oh the sow is as high as my knee

oh we are in the place where the herders used to stay
do you have fire
lets do camping here
no i don’t smoke
if you don’t smoke you could at least keep the lighter

oh its 5pm
the clouds of the sky are at the ground
i can’t even see you if i go few meters far
its so hard

now
we can miss any village that might be some few meters ahead

no sun no moon
clouds around us

some trees are peeping at us
and teasing us for our try of getting adventure

how far are we from the near village…….. no idea
are we going towards our destination,,,,,, no idea
will we reach home safely ……. no idea
do we have any equipment to sit in the middle of jungle ……. no

no food
do you have any idea what are the probable animals here
that we could be food of

what do you have in bag
some clothes and dead batteries and this camera that we haven’t clicked since we are lost
i have one swiss knife, J.s camera (he will kill me off ) and cloths

5:45
oh what a happy news
here
is the biscuit rapper

oh shit/ god
here is one home made by the herders
oh god
this means we are really far from the nearbly village
fuck us

shall we sit here
its already dusk

what do we do
we have nothing
what can we loose
life
what could we gain
some village nearbly
a life

lets walk in this random mountain in the random trail for the random destination

don’t you think we could have missed Poon hill and gone to another place ….. high probablity
may be we could reach the poon hill in the middle of the night …. high probablity
may be we could have been walking in the same nearby way all the way …… high probablity
may be we are lost as in the moving mountains of the lord of the rings ……. high probablity
may be we could just be walking all the way like this…. high probablity

oh this seem way
we have seen such way hundreds don’t expect high
oh there is another shed
may be temporary home made by transhumance/ some herders people don’t expect high

oh there is home
oh
oh
oh
what place is it

forget the name

at least we could get the sleep in bed
🙂

AHHH we are nearbly

wish I had my girlfriend at this moment
love you

its 6.30 pm
its damn cold

look my shoes are eaten by snow
ah my legs are hurting

oH i got the message
its from the team
oh we are in the right place
oh
they are just few meters far
oh
just got saved
enjoyed the ride

at the moment if you were girl I would have kissed you
love you

if we had known we were lost only in some places but at the end catching the right track we would walk slowly, enjoying every spot
if known this was the old route followed in the Annapurna base camp trekking route, we could have taken lots of photos, we could have enjoyed the beautiful nature
if we had known we were going in the right direction even being lost somewhere we would have enjoyed a lot
if known we could reach home safely we could have caught the lots of Pheasant birds, taken snaps of some of the wild animals that we saw

anyway loved being lost but i don’t suggest to get lost or take short cut route remember the stories of the tourist being lost in the Langtang trek. it all starts with some fun and ends in nowhereness, we don’t have any option than moving ahead and hoping for secure life and there we are in the dark jungle, ready to be the prey of some wild animal or being lost in the wild where no way leads us to destination.

Have a great trek to Poon hill and refresh your body at the tatopani while returning, it will bring good to your body and soul

Happy reading, happy trekking

Some snaps 🙂
